Brows Before Bros.

Brows Before Bros.

Some people say perfect skin is what makes a makeup. Others, say mascara draws attention to the eyes, thus, the most important in a beauty routine. I think defined eyebrows is what truly finalizes a look. Don't get me wrong, I'm the first one to say that mascara is uber important, but eyebrows frame a face.

Now, there are many ways to enhance brows; shaping, filling in or darkening. Also, there are plenty of tools that can be used; wax, threads, tweezers, scissors, pencils, gels, powders, etc... I can see how the idea of changing the shape of your eyebrows can be daunting. I usually always recommend to get them professionally shaped and to just maintain them yourself. Too often, I see girls with horrible eyebrows and it just makes me want to grab them by the shoulders and shake the non-sense out of them. Especially when so many talented makeup artists offer great tutorial videos and photos on how to enhance them... There's just no excuse! Luckily, I have one of my closest friends (and talented makeup artist) to help me reshape them every couple of months while I fill them in every morning using The Brow Gal tools.

My favorite method of eyebrow shaping is threading, especially from the Benefit brow bar in SoHo. I find threading gives you a cleaner and longer lasting result, without the pulling and pain waxing causes. Unlike waxing, this ancient Indian method doesn't affect the skin's elasticity as much (i.e. saggy eyelids). I've tried a few threading bars in Montreal and other cities, and I must say, my favorite one is Benefit Brow Bar in SoHo, NYC.

“In threading, a thin (cotton or polyester) thread is doubled, then twisted. It is then rolled over areas of unwanted hair, plucking the hair at the follicle level. Unlike tweezing, where single hairs are pulled out one at a time, threading can remove short lines of hair.”

Sometimes, even if you get them shaped, you just don't have enough brow hair to get the full look you want. That's when the filling process comes into play. Since my own tutorial video is not ready yet, I thought I'd share Desi Perkins' tutorial, which is one of the best ones on Youtube in my opinion.
